Drake has withdrawn his legal petition against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify, which alleged that the companies artificially inflated the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.” The withdrawal notice, filed on January 14, 2025, by Drake’s company, Frozen Moments LLC, discontinues all legal proceedings without financial penalties for any parties involved.
The original petition, filed in November 2024, accused UMG and Spotify of using bots and pay-to-play agreements to manipulate streaming numbers and promote Lamar’s track over Drake’s music. UMG had denied these allegations, stating that they employ the highest ethical practices in their marketing and promotional campaigns.
The feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has been ongoing, with both artists releasing diss tracks targeting each other. “Not Like Us” was particularly controversial, containing lyrics that accused Drake of serious misconduct. The track achieved significant commercial success, topping charts and breaking streaming records.
Drake’s decision to drop the legal action comes after both sides met to discuss the filing. Spotify, which had previously opposed the petition, expressed no objection to the withdrawal, and UMG reserved its position.
